snapshots from july 2015
July was a very special month for me, as we celebrated our first wedding anniversary under the sun in Punta Cana. At the same time last year, I was thinking about launching a food blog to document all of my favorite recipes and culinary adventures, so as to keep track of my new life as a married woman. Savormania came to life shortly after in November and has grown into a repertoire of close to 100 international recipes in both English and French, each one inspired by my crazy origins. Let’s take a look back at everything we’ve cooked, experienced and loved during the past month.
5 RECIPES OF JULY
I had to slow down the number of recipes posted per week since we were off for 2 weeks in Punta Cana, nevertheless I did share two of my favorites with you while we were away! Now that we’re back home I’ll be sharing recipes twice a week until end of August, and starting September, we’ll be back to our old rhythm of three recipes a week.
This July, we cooked…
Bell peppers, green olives, tomatoes and many other goodies in this cooked salad, to be served warm or at room temperature. We love it because it’s so quick and easy to make, turning it into the perfect side dish to whip up on a weeknight.
We also baked…
My favorite summer fruits: berries! This crumble features strawberries, raspberries and blueberries and comes topped with pistachios for even more crunch. Who wants a slice?
And stir-fried…
Mushrooms, Asian style, with a honey and soy sauce glaze that gives vegetables a flavor like no other. We loved the glaze so much when we used it to coat baby carrots, so we brought it to mixed mushrooms too!
And combined…
Quinoa with pan-roasted artichoke hearts to create one of our favorite dishes since the launch of Savormania! You’ve gotta try this one. Like right now.
And wanted to try…
Recreating the a-m-a-z-i-n-g gazpacho we had during our anniversary celebration dinner in Punta Cana, and so we did! Here’s a recipe for traditional Spanish gazpacho with an exotic twist.

OUR GOALS FOR AUGUST
Cook something with… fennel, maybe Ottolenghi’s fennel cherry tomato and crumble gratin that I’ve been meaning to try since forever?
Learn to love… curry! I’ve never liked the strong taste of this spice, but as Jon loves it and we’ve been married for over a year, I guess I’ll have to start trying. I’ll keep you posted!
Make a salad with… some fruits, either peaches, mangoes or strawberries.
Try this… Strawberry Semifreddo from The Missing Lokness, since strawberries are all I want right now. And it’s hot, so nothing sounds better than anything frozen!
Publish… one photo a day of what I’m currently cooking on Instagram and Twitter.
OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANTS OF THE MONTH
In Punta Cana… Passion, one of the Michelin-starred Spanish chef Martin Berasategui’s restaurants. Read about it here.
In Geneva… Baroush, a Lebanese-Morrocan restaurant with incredible mezzes and great oriental music.
Also in Geneva… Cottage Cafe, for its selection of Middle-Eastern and Mediterranean tapas and relaxed atmosphere.
